My African Big year has been progressing slowly after a sudden rise when I arrived in Benin. although I expected to reach into the 300's rather easily with having an odd 200 to chase for the rest of the year it has not been the case. So the statistics are not looking good, which just means I am going to have to put more birding into it.
Birding around Parakou and Serarou I have been able to get my list up to a healthy 266. Unexpectedly making the 300 mark difficult to reach. With a trip up north to Pendjari National Park I increased the list to 282, which helped out with some great birding to be described later. In total since I have arrive I have got close to 50 new bird species seen (lifers) with the actual figure being on 43. Hoping for a few more I am going to need to put some more effort into my birding along with reaching that illusive 500 mark for the year.
