| Abyssinian Roller (Coracias abyssinicus) |
Making repairs and getting back into birding in South Africa. This has been the summary of my time in South Africa regarding birding. The bird feeding swings around as the House Sparrow (Passer domesticus) competes with the Cape Sparrow (Passer melanurus) until the Southern Masked-Weaver (Ploceus velatus) comes along and chases them to the ground. having used my Binoculars pretty much all the time in West Africa I took them in to get doctored. Dust is impossible to avoid in West Africa. Hopefully I can get them back before my trip to Kruger next week.
I had a short trip up north to Polokwane, and got into a little bushveld birding there although no extreme birding. Crimson-Breasted Shrike (Laniarius atrococcineus) stood out as I haven't added that to a year list for at least five years. White-browed Scrub-robin (Erythropygia leucophrys) and White-fronted bee-eater (Merops bullockoides) were found too. no photos were taken so thought to keep the interest from an archive photo of a Abyssinia Roller (Coracias abyssinicus) since I was reminded of them when the Lilac-breasted Roller (Coracias caudatus) made his appearance along the powerlines next to the road.
