| Amethyst Sunbird (Chalcomitra amethystina) at the Walter Sisulu Botonical Gardens |
It was another week of birding around the birdbath in Kempton Park. The cold-front that came in and dropped temperatures down to 0 was not conducive for getting out to bird. However with word that there was a bird fair out at the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens and me being around. I headed out to brave the cold to start birding back in RSA with a bird fair.
Considering I had the morning to bird, the actual birding time was short, but I got round to the waterfalls and saw the infamous Verreaux's Eagle (Aquila verreauxii) flying around being mobbed by Pied Crows (Corvus albus). the abundance of Amethyst Sunbirds (Chalcomitra amethystina) around the aloes and Southern Boubou (Laniarius ferrugineus) calling made for a pleasure walk around the gardens and a change from the Red-headed Finches (Amadina erythrocephala) and Laughing Dove (Streptopelia senegalensis) around the birdbath.
